Big Camps of 2013

Lest we miss an opportunity for high adventure, the boys have expressed interest in a cross country ski trip.

The details are:

Ski & Snowboarding Tour at Scofield Reservoir

February 22-23, 2013

$45.00 per person ($25 out of pocket, $20 from our budget), includes three meals, equipment and lodging in the lodge.

All skiing equipment (boots, skis and poles) is included.  There is a downhill element available as well; bring your own snowboard.

Also Rifle Shooting Range and Archery Range activities and a Friday Night Dutch Oven Cobbler Contest.

Food includes dinner on Friday night, and breakfast and lunch on Saturday.

Just FYI, there is a maximum capacity of 36 at this event, so there will not be a ton of people besides us in camp.

Our summer expedition will be the Lehi West Stake Encampment.  Encampment will be held June 17-22, 2013. There will be a few options for training, advancement and so forth. My suggestion is that the boys go through the Varsity All-Stars Program. It may help that I am on staff for that course, but I feel that it will be a good experience for your sons.

Film Pin - Final Projects

For your viewing pleasure, here are the final videos made, directed and filmed by the Sunset 2nd Varsity Team 945.

The theme of these videos is Famous Last Words.

What film would be complete nowadays without a deleted scene and outtake section.  We hope you enjoy this as well.

Payson Lake Campout

On October 19-20 we had another Varsity camp. We went up the Nebo Scenic Byway to camp and fish at Payson Lakes.

Getting the poles ready to set up their tent. I don't think these boys knew what to do with a tent that wasn't broken.

Almost there... If only they had staked it in first. :)

Getting closer.

Almost up.

The last rays of the sun setting on the lake.
They call him the Fish Whisperer.

Affixing the hook.

And out to conquer the fish. Do you see them all jumping in the lake!

Trying another angle.

A nice cool morning.

Slogging through the mud.

A wonderful morning for fishing.

It was fun to have the Morris' stop by in the morning.

Learning to fly (fly fish that is).

Look out fish. Notice the USS Morris in the background. The boys loved the boat ride.
This camp was a great time. We caught more than 12 fish, lost and found a wedding ring, and spent time as a quorum.

Our Rescheduled, Rescheduled, Rescheduled Campout

Ok, sorry to everyone about the scheduling issues on our camping trip. I forgot about the stake meetings for ward and stake leadership in conjunction with Stake Conference.

We are still going camping; it will be on October 19-20.  We will be camping at Payson Lakes to do a little fishing.  The boys have requested fishing again, so we are at it one more time with feeling.  For information on the Fishing Merit Badges and State Regulations see our August Post.

Cooking at the Todds

One item that we decided to work on with the Young Men was a Personal Development item; cooking.
Sister Todd teaching the boys how to make French Bread Pizza.

A captive audience.

On with the toppings.
Everyone helped with this project.

Our supervisors...

Trying the smoothie with spinach.

Commenting on our trek photo.

Thank you SO much to Sister Todd! We really appreciate all your preparations and patience!
