Varsity All-Stars 2013

This week our Teacher's Quorum has been involved in the Varsity All-Stars program, a leadership training course for young men in the Varsity Scout program. This was in conjunction with the Stake Zion's Encampment.

Camp Tifie is located in the hills above Mt. Pleasant, Utah. It is a beautiful view, presided over by Mt. Nebo, as seen in this picture.

While camping we were visited by a young two-point buck. It was entertaining to see it graze around our tents.

We played the "Brownsea Tarp game" where the entire squad was to flip the tarp while standing on the tarp.

Later in the week the game I was in charge of was a blindfolded three-legged puzzle game. Quite the event, I think.

Breakfast of biscuits and gravy one morning. "Thanks Quartermasters!"

The night of our outpost the quartermasters treated us to a cobbler for cracker barrel.

One of our events was a bottle launcher.

On Thursday we had our Rendezvous.

Horseshoes was one of the popular events.

The young men learned how to start a fire using flint and steel.

We had a horizontal ladder that was quite challenging.

Slingshots were also on hand.

Tripod lashing and chariot races were also part of the event.

We had a stone put as one of the events as well.

Ladder golf was a favorite of the whole encampment.

Hawks

Knives

and lastly there was a Caber Toss.

Friday evening we had a special fireside on putting on the whole armor of God. It was very powerful!

The next morning we saw some baby birds in the nest.

This is a Sego Lily from one of the hikes I went on.

What a gorgeous setting!

All in all it was a wonderful camp.

The hardest part of writing about encampment is that I cannot even do justice to any of the spiritual moments or the training that went on. It was an excellent week, and I know I learned a lot in the process.
